My Story

Martha Morrison loves to write and has a demonstrated history of creative initiatives and diverse experiences in the agricultural, hospitality and fine arts industries. She is recognized for her professionalism, creativity and commitment to excellence through her work ethic.

Martha holds a BSc in Biochemistry from Queen’s University and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction from King’s College at the University of Dalhousie. She speaks conversational French and Spanish and has a musical background in piano and voice.

Her first career was as a flight attendant in the international and private charter division of Air Canada, working for celebrities and professional sports teams in the National Hockey League (NHL) and Major League Baseball (MLB). Martha also appeared in company commercials, modelled for new uniform campaigns and became a flight attendant trainer in service and procedures. She later became an award-winning professional ballroom dancer and instructor, and worked for the Fred Astaire and Arthur Murray dance studios. Martha competed professionally in the Smooth and Rhythm divisions, winning medals from judges such as renowned choreographer Jean-Marc Généroux. In 2019, she and her community celebrity partner won the 2019 Mississauga Dancing with the Stars competition.

Martha writes memoir, fiction and poetry. She was shortlisted in the 2022 International Amy MacRae Award for Memoir and worked as a literary judge in the 2025 contest. Her work has been published in several anthologies, including the Gratitude and Inspiration Anthology (One Thousand Trees Press, 2022), the Amy Anthology Volume 2 (Memoir Writing Ink, 2023) and Out of the Woods: Voices from the Forest City (Indie Publishing Group, 2025), which was selected by Emma Donoghue. Martha served as Chair of the inaugural anthology Out of the Woods project for the London Writers Society, which was named one of the Globe and Mail’s “35 Hot New Reads.”

Martha is currently editing her flight attendant memoir, Grounded, and crafting a piece for an upcoming anthology on motherhood (publisher, TBA) edited by Lucy E.M. Black. Martha volunteers with the Humane Society as a cat profile writer to bring cats in need of a home together with potential adopters. She has attended various writing residencies including Under the Volcano in Tepoztlán, Mexico with Magda Bogin, workshops with Alison Wearing in Stratford, Ontario, A Memorable Life with Cea Person, The Write Retreat with Adelle Purdham, The Bestselling Masterclass with Gabby Bernstein and Hay House Publishing Writers workshop.

Originally from Toronto, Martha now lives on a farm in rural southwestern Ontario with her family, dogs, cats, bunnies and chickens. She manages the farm’s administration including the solar panels and participates in agricultural fairs. Her vegetables, flowers, children and pets have all won ribbons, which are proudly displayed in her country home. Most days, she gets up with the rooster (and before the dogs, cats, and kids) to write in the early morning quiet.
